WALL Family History
Recorded in over forty spellings including Wall and Walle (English) Wall, Wallmann (German) Wahl and the ornamentals Wallenberg and Wahlberg (Swedish), it is recorded in many parts of Northern Europe. It may also have Irish origins. All nationalities are slightly different in meaning. If English or German it means a defensive wall as described below, if Swedish a grassy bank or flood barrier, and as an ornamental name 'Pasture-hill', or for something completely different the Irish translation, which derives from the ancient Gaelic 'de Bahl' and means a stranger! In Sweden ornamental surnames were introduced in the 18th century to try to obtain variety from the patronymics such as Anderssen or Tomsen which formed the overwhelming numbers in the lsist making identification very difficult...Select Audience

I forgot to say that he was born around 1839 and died in Gibraltar in 1924.
I've done a fair amount of family history but my interest was originally sparked by Stephenโs links with Ireland (and the Cork area). Any pointers gratefully received. Jenny.

I looking for all men named William Wall who had a son namedJames born between 1830 and 1835. When James emigrated to the US he stated that he came from County Kilkenny. His mother's name was Mary surname unknown and his father was William. I have found only one RC record which would match up name and date wise and that is Mary Farrell and William Wall 10 OCT 1827 at Gowran and William's address is Templemartin. A later record shows children named James. Edward and Margaret. Any information that can confirm or deny this connection to James Wall who emigrated to Boston, MA in 1850 would be appreciated. James was my great grandfather.
I do have the Wall Genealogy by Hubert Galwey. My aunt was one of the original subscribers to that work. I am guessing that we are descended from the Coolamuck Walls but would love to be able to make definitive connections if I can.

My father's [George Pelham Cofer (1912-1979)] mother was Carrie Lou Wall (1880-1974) whose father was Benjamin Franklin Wall (1839-1920) whose father was Thomas J Wall (1810-1864) [all from Wilkes County, Georgia] whose father I found with online research as John W Wall (1780-1863) who was married to Ann Walker (1780-?), both from Ireland, and also his father was John W Wall (dates?). I have not been able to find where where they are from in Ireland and would very much like to find out who my ancestors were.

His short army career took him to Gibra?ltar. I would love to know which branch of the Walls he came from. Thanks.
