Lawler Family History

This most interesting surname is a variant of the Irish surname Lawlor, which is of Old Gaelic origin, as the Anglicized form of the Gaelic "O'Leathlobhair", composed of the Gaelic prefix "O", male descendant of, and a personal name composed of the elements "leath", half (meaning "somewhat, fairly"), and "-labor", leprous, sick. Hence the name seems to have been originally a byname for a man of unhealthy constitution. The name is also found as Lalour and Lalor, and the prefix has been almost entirely dropped in the present day.

My great great grandmother Jane Lawler was born at sea Corfu Ionian island Greece in 1842c (according to the census from 1851 ). She was placed in the Salford Industrial School Swinton Salford Lancashire, near Manchester. In 1861 she was in the New Bridge St workhouse in Manchester. According to her Marraige certificate to Benjamin Armitage in 1873 her father was John Lawler dec'd. This could be why she was placed in the Industrial school. I can not find her birth certificate or the registration/recording of it so can not confirm her mother's name or her father's name and occupation.

I've traced our family back to the American Revolutionary War, My grandfather was a very rich surveyor in Virginia. He served in the Continental Army That's as far back as I have gotten so far. My Father was born in Virginia, moved to Detroit Michigan when he was young, during the Great Depression. Wanting to find my way back to "The Seven Septs of Linx" Tribes. I believe that's were we all began. I believe we started in Northern Ireland around county "Clare"

My great great grandparents moved over to America, more specifically West Virginia in the 1800s. I’m just very curious about where in Ireland we’re from and if there’s still family out there. If you know anyone who knows the history or is family please contact me.
